🌱NYC Busts Vax Infertility Myth + Carriage Ban | Daily Digest

Happy Tuesday, New York City! No, the COVID-19 vaccine won’t make you infertile — that’s the message coming from the city’s top doctors. Read more below.

First, today’s weather:

A predicted morning freeze will give way to partly sunny skies and a breezy, cool day. High: 42 Low: 32.

Here are the top stories in New York City today:

  1. A new ad campaign and New York City’s top doctors aim to bust COVID-19 myths, including one that the vaccine causes infertility. The heightened push — and an effort to boost booster shots beyond the 811,000 New Yorkers who’ve received them so far — comes amid fears cold weather could cause a viral resurgence. (New York City Patch)
  2. Central Park’s carriage horses soon could make their last ride, if Mayor Bill de Blasio has his way. The mayor confirmed he’s spending his final days in office to push through a ban. (Upper West Side Patch)
  3. Speaking of de Blasio, he didn’t waste the opportunity to kick Andrew Cuomo while the former governor is down. A damning new impeachment report “confirms” Cuomo’s misconduct, de Blasio said. (New York City Patch)
  4. In decidedly not-so-good news for the mayor, de Blasio is dead last in the New York governor’s race, according to a new poll. (New York City Patch)
  5. Mayor-elect Eric Adams said he’s trying to convince Rep. Tom Suozzi — a longtime Long Island politician — to take a deputy mayor position in his administration. (Glen Cove Patch)
  6. But another prominent figure likely won’t be in Adams’ administration — Steve Banks, the city’s homeless services chief, will leave his post at the year’s end. (City Limits)

Matt Troutman

About me: I cover the citywide beat for Patch NYC after reporting on my beloved home borough of Brooklyn. Before Patch, I kicked around newspapers and other outlets in Indiana, Michigan and New York City. Along the way I’ve sat through innumerable trials and public meetings, picked up a national investigative reporting award, reported on televangelists flying private jets, among many other mundane, noteworthy or strange reporting experiences. In my free time, I’m a big movie buff, an aspiring home cook and am forever seeking good natural areas. You can reach me with story ideas, tips or feedback at matt.troutman@patch.com or call at 347-622-3654.
