Arrest made after pregnant woman shot

Authorities have made an arrest and given an update on the pregnant woman shot and her baby. The shooting happened Saturday near Belton on James Cox Road in Anderson County. Carrie Skeen, with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, said two women, one of whom was 9 months pregnant, were in a car when a man walked up to the vehicle and shot inside.The pregnant woman suffered a gunshot to the back of the head, Skeen said.She said the woman was rushed to the hospital, where the baby was delivered.Keen said Friday that the woman is home from the hospital and receiving care for her gunshot wound. She said the baby is still in the hospital and is expected to recover. Keen said Justin P. Copeland has been charged with first-degree assault and battery, first-degree domestic violence and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Copeland is in the Anderson County Detention Center. Authorities said when the shooting happened that they believed the shooter was aiming for the driver and not the pregnant woman.
