Facts About Covid19 – Healthy Moms Magazine

Covid19 is a mild to severe respiratory illness that is caused by a coronavirus (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 of the genus Betacoronavirus), is transmitted chiefly by contact with infectious material (such as respiratory droplets) or with objects or surfaces contaminated by the causative virus, and is characterized especially by fever, cough, and shortness of breath and may progress to pneumonia and respiratory failure

Covid is caused by a different than the one causing colds and the flu: the virus SARS-CoV-1. Those with serious underlying health conditions such as lung or heart disease or those who have had chemotherapy usually appear to be at greater risk for contracting Covid. The virus is also believed to have come into contact with semen from an infected person who has died, suggesting a way for it to make its way back into the body after someone else dies from Covid-related illnesses. This condition is often referred to as the “sleeping disease.”

What is the treatment for covid19? Your child might receive a series of intravenous medications to fight off the virus. He or she might need to spend the night in the hospital to recover. It is important that anyone who has had a child acquire adequate vaccination shots within the first 72 hours of the infection help fight off any complications that might arise.

Why is this condition affecting young children? It is believed that the virus spreads when infected saliva is exchanged with an infected person. If a child contracts the virus before he or she can have children, the resulting consequences could be devastating.

How is the condition affecting parents? A question that parents everywhere are asking is how their child is faring since he or she contracted the illness. One concern is whether the disease has been able to spread to other members of the family, especially if other family members also have the condition. If the illness has spread to another child in the family, this could mean disaster for the other children.

To avoid having this condition affect your child, there are steps you can take to limit the number of possible sources of contact with the virus. Encourage your child to shower regularly and bathe at home. Secure flushing toilets and washing facilities in your home and use hand washing to reduce the risk of transmitting the condition. For those traveling abroad, ensure that they do not share toys or bottles with an ill child.

The symptoms will typically manifest quickly and last between two to eleven days. This will depend on the severity of the condition. Children with the Covid19 virus may exhibit no symptoms or only a few, but the virus will still be present in their system. A child should be checked immediately by his or her pediatrician to determine the best course of treatment.

During the initial period of virus exposure, the virus will be in low quantity in your child’s blood. Your child’s body will be ready to fight off the disease because he or she will be producing antibodies. However, these antibodies will not provide protection against all the diseases that are common in childhood.

Knowing all these information can help you and your doctor manage the situation. It can also help the parents of a child with the condition to deal with the situation more effectively. Communicating properly with each other and with the child can help you both deal with the disease.
