In fact, studies have shown that garlic may help decrease blood pressure and cholesterol while increasing the levels of good cholesterol.

There is some evidence that suggests that a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, along with adding garlic to your diet, may help to control high cholesterol levels. Garlic also contains an enzyme that allows it to break down cholesterol. So, by adding garlic to your diet, you could help prevent the build up of cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Garlic can also be ingested to eat raw onions or eating cooked garlic cloves. You should not eat garlic breath directly though, as the breath will contain a number of bacteria that can lead to a range of different health problems including stomach infections.

Allicin is the most active component in garlic, accounting for about 60% of the plant’s strength. This compound is produced when the cells of the garlic plant split open (by either puncturing the bulb or by hydrolysis). When this occurs, chemical compounds called colicins are released. These compounds are antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral, among other things.
