In this Kabrita Formula Review, I take an honest look at their goat milk toddler formula. This alternative formula provides children 12 months and older with the essential nutrients they need for growth and development. Find out what sets Kabrita apart from other brands, and how it compares to other goat’s milk formulas on the market!
In the United States, about 83% of families choose to use formula at some time or another during their baby’s feeding years. While breast milk has its benefits, it is not always a possibility for all families to exclusively breastfeed for a number of (very valid) reasons. Even women who breastfeed find themselves needing to supplement with formula from time to time.
There is no shame in using formula for your child! In fact, modern-day infant formula has all of the important nutrients that breastmilk contains, and it can be just as healthy for your baby as breastmilk. I maintain that breast isn’t best, FED is best. And if you do find yourself looking for a formula, you want it to be the best option for your little one!
Over the course of many years of researching this very topic, and experience with my own children, I have found that there are a few criteria to look for when evaluating the various formula options on the market today.
In this Kabrita Goat Milk Formula Review, I take a closer look at what makes this formula a great option for those looking for a quality European formula, and also answer all of your questions regarding this formula! Most Kabrita formula reviews will just tell you all the positives (and there are lots of them!), but it is my goal to provide you with all the information so that you can make an informed decision.
Kabrita’s goat milk formula is made in Europe and it’s one of the European formulas I recommend for families. It is a goat’s milk formula that is made in the Netherlands using pure Dutch goat milk. It adheres to the strictest European regulations, which are much more stringent than those in the United States. Kabrita USA is a division of Ausnutria, a Dutch company that has over 100 years of experience in the dairy industry.
The company was founded by moms on a mission to support parents in nourishing their families with confidence and ease. Kabrita USA wanted to provide parents in the United States with more feeding options for their families.
They are committed to the transparency of their products.
Gentle Formula: Goat milk protein produces smaller, softer, and looser curds in the stomach during digestion, compared to cow milk protein composition. This supports an easier digestion process for sensitive tummies. In addition, Kabrita has a whey casein ratio of 50:50, which improves digestibility. The gentle nature of goat milk, and additional whey proteins compared to cow milk formula makes it more easily digestible.
Natural And Added Prebiotics: Kabrita supports the growth of beneficial bacteria, a healthy gut microbiome, and immune system support by having both natural and added prebiotics.
Naturally A2 Milk: A2 milk is easier on the digestive system than A1 milk, which is what most cow’s milk formulas contain.
Premium Fat Blend: Kabrita uses a premium fat blend which includes beta-palmitate. Palmitic acid oil is known to improve the gut microbiome and improve stool consistency. This fat blend included vegetable oils.
High Quality Goat Milk, Made in Europe: European standards for formula are much more stringent than those in the US. As a result, formulas made in Europe tend to be of higher quality. Kabrita is one of the best European goat milk formulas.
Lactose: The primary carbohydrate in their formula supports the gut microbiome and calcium absorption.
Prebiotics GOS: Galacto-oligosaccharides are a type of prebiotic that fuels good bacteria and may benefit gut health.
Gentle Goat Milk Proteins: The protein used are nonfat dry goat milk and goat whey concentrate, which is an adapted and easy to digest protein.
DHA: Mortierella Alpina Oil, Crypthecodinium Cohnii Oil. Kabrita’s hexane-free DHA & ARA. These important fatty acids support brain and vision health.
Vegetable Oil Fat Blend: The fat blend is made up of high 2-palmitic Acid vegetable oil, soybean oil, palm kernel oil, and sunflower oil. This plant-based fat blend supports fat and mineral absorption and creates softer stools, compared to fat blends with standard palm oil.
22 Vitamins and Minerals: Using the vitamins and minerals approved by the FDA including folic acid, iron, and vitamin D.
Kabrita is the best option for children who are between 12-24 months of age. It is especially a good choice for those who have food sensitivities, such as a sensitivity to cow’s milk formula. It is designed to help maintain the natural comfort of your child during feeding transitions such as weaning and supplementing or changing formulas due to an upset stomach. Always consult your healthcare providers to make sure Kabrita is right for your child.
Can I give Kabrita formula to my baby before 12 months?
Kabrita’s formula meets the FDA nutritional requirements for infant formula, however, it has not gone through the FDA evaluation process that is required for infant formula. Therefore, in the United States, it can only be recommended as a Toddler Formula (Kabrita is FDA registered as a toddler formula).
Can I give my child Kabrita formula if they have a cow’s milk allergy?
If your child has a confirmed cow’s milk protein allergy, it is not recommended that they use a goat milk formula, as the same allergic reaction could also occur. Check with your doctor to determine if your child has a cow’s milk allergy or cow milk sensitivity. The two are very different. Those with just a sensitivity may do well on goat’s milk formula, whereas those with an allergy likely will not.
If my child has lactose intolerance, is Kabrita right for them?
No, if your child has a confirmed lactose intolerance do not give your child Kabrita formula. Lactose is the main carbohydrate in goat’s milk, and it is molecularly the same in all types of milk such as human milk, and cow’s milk.
Why is soy added to Kabrita’s goat’s milk formula?
Kabrita’s formula contains non-GMO soybean oil as part of the plant-based fat blend. Soybean oil is not the same a whole soybeans. Soybeans are a common food allergen, and also raise concerns about hormone disruptions. However, soybean oil is free of the protein that raises these concerns.
What does Kabrita taste like?
It has a sweet and mild taste that is similar to breastmilk. The fresh taste is pleasing to most children. If your child is transitioning from breastmilk to Kabrita formula, you may want to do so gradually over 1-2 weeks so that they adjust easily.
