Malin Andersson has opened up about her battle with pre-natal depression and reveals she is taking antidepressants while pregnant after experiencing suicidal thoughts.

The former Love Island star is currently expecting her first child with boyfriend Jared and announced the news in August, more than two years after her baby daughter Consy died just days after being born premature.

On Sunday, Malin revealed she was inspired by Dr Alex George’s calls to end the stigma against taking medication for mental health issues, and shared her heartbreaking ordeal.

In an Instagram, the former reality star shared a photo of herself holding a pill and explained: ‘As you all know this pregnancy has been a tough time for me. It’s brought up emotions and feelings and Unhealed trauma that I never knew existed within my soul and body.

‘I’ve struggled immensely and I started to suffer from pre-natal depression and suicidal thoughts from the 2nd trimester. I know that it is a HUGE taboo and such stigma to be on anti-depressants whilst being pregnant.

‘Nobody wants to talk about it or admit if they are, and they are scared to ask for help if they are struggling with their pregnancy. They are also hesitant to give out anti depressants and attach it a lot with pro’s and con’s so we feel damned if we do and damned if we don’t.’

Malin went on to explain that while she’s overcome some ‘huge battles’, she needed help this time round.

She urged other expectant mothers not to ‘feel afraid’ to ask for help if they’re also struggling with their mental health during pregnancy.

‘Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean that you HAVE to be happy – that everything should be sunshine and rainbows,’ she stated.

‘It doesn’t always work like that – I never thought I would be suffering with pre-natal depression and intrusive thoughts.. this is why I’m posting. To help someone that may need to seek help.
