This story received national attention after police arrested Juan Miranda-Jara.
Tulsa police said when they took Miranda-Jara into custody last Summer, he was genuinely confused and upset he couldn’t go home with the young girl and their baby.
This week, Miranda-Jara waived his right to a jury trial and pleaded guilty to a single first degree rape charge. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, and he must serve 85 percent of his sentence before qualifying for parole.
Once released, he will have to register as a sex offender.
The girl’s mother, Desiree Castenada, knowlingly allowed her 12-year-old to be around Miranda-Jara and threw them a baby shower, according to Tulsa police. She still has charges pending against her for enabling child sex abuse and child neglect.
