MEMPHIS, Tenn. β€” A Memphis man was arrested after a family went through a terrifying ordeal at a gas station, according to a police affidavit.

Police said that a man, his pregnant wife and their 3-year-old son pulled up to a gas station on Getwell Rd. on Monday.

When the man got out of the 2003 Toyota Corolla to go inside, police said 27-year-old Elpedro Parker jumped into the driver’s seat and put the car in reverse.

The woman jumped out of the car, but then jumped back in when she realized her son was still in the backseat, police said.

As she made an unsuccessful attempt to snag the keys out of the ignition, the man witnessed Parker trying to steal his car, according to the affidavit.

Police said the man ran back outside and was able to jump into the car and pull the emergency brake before getting the keys out of the ignition.

Memphis Police made the scene and pulled Parker from the car before arresting him, the affidavit said.

Parker has been charged with carjacking, attempted kidnapping and especially aggravated kidnapping.
