MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A family delivered an emotional plea for justice Monday evening after a 26-year-old woman and her unborn son were killed in a Memphis shooting.
Around 6 a.m. on Dec. 4, a woman was found shot to death near a home on Ford Rd., according to the Memphis Police Department.

Family members have identified that woman as 26-year-old Ashanti Smith. Smith died while 5 months pregnant with a baby boy, according to her family.
That boy would have been the first grandson for Ashanti’s father, Antony Smith, who had previously taken care of Ashanti and her two children at his house in Ohio.
Now, those two children, two and three years old, respectively, are left to grow up without a mother.
“What this monster did to her, and I want people to understand also that he took my only grandson, she was pregnant with my grandson. And he took both of them,” Anthony Smith said.

Memphis police have not yet identified Ashanti’s. But her mother, Macheryl Smith, believes it was the father of Ahsanti’s children who took her life.
Macheryl Smith said she begged her daughter to leave the man, but Ashanti wouldn’t.
“We couldn’t get her to leave him,” Macheryl Smith said. “He said ‘I don’t care about you calling your mother, and I want her to hear this, I’m gonna call that N*** and I’m gonna put you in a body bag and I will go to jail. That’s the way it’s gonna end.’ But at the end of the day, she still said ‘I love you’, ‘I love you too’”
While talking to FOX13, Macheryl Smith got emotional, asking for police to find Ashanti’s killer and thinking about Ashanti’s two children who are left to grow up without a mother.
