Pregnant woman taken to hospital after rollover crash in Cass County, police say

CASS COUNTY, MI — A young family, including a pregnant woman, were involved in a rollover crash Saturday.

At about 4:18 p.m. Feb. 19, deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash on Marcellus Highway, east of Gards Prairie in Volinia Township, northern Cass County.

Deputies found that the vehicle, driven by a 25-year-old Marcellus man, had been travelling eastbound when the driver lost control while passing another motorist, police said.

The vehicle left the road, rolled over and struck an electrical pole, breaking it away from the ground, police said.

The driver was able to get his passengers — including a 23-year-old woman and the pair’s 4-year-old daughter — safely from the vehicle, police said.

The driver and the 4-year-old were uninjured, police said, though the 23-year-old woman was taken to Bronson Hospital for evaluation, as she is 34 weeks pregnant.

Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash, police said, and seat belts and a child-restraint seat were properly utilized. This crash remains under investigation at this time.

Deputies were assisted on scene by Wayne Township Fire and Pride Care Ambulance.
