Serena Williams pregnancy rumours swirl during US Open

Serena Williams is putting on an incredible show at the US Open in New York ahead of her retirement later this month.

She just beat Anett Kontaveit at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, putting her through to the third round in her final ever tournament.

The 40-year-old announced that she is retiring from tennis last month after winning a staggering 23 grand slam singles titles.

“I have never liked the word retirement,” she wrote in Vogue in August. “It doesn’t feel like a modern word to me. I’ve been thinking of this as a transition.”

“Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me,” she continued.

The tennis star is quitting the sport because she wants to spend more time with her family and even said that she’s been trying for a second baby.

Now fans are speculating that the tennis star is pregnant during the US Open…

Serena Williams pregnancy rumours swirl

In the Vogue interview in which she declared her farewell to professional Tennis after 26 years, Serena touched on plans for baby number two.

She revealed that she has been trying for a second baby with her husband Alexis Ohanian, who is an internet entrepreneur and investor.

“In the last year, Alexis and I have been trying to have another child,” she said, exciting fans with the possibility of another Williams child in the future.

“We recently got some information from my doctor that put my mind at ease and made me feel that whenever we’re ready, we can add to our family,” the athlete added.

This has sparked speculation that she’s pregnant, with many convinced she has been showing signs of early pregnancy during the tournament.

Tennis star doesn’t want to be pregnant as an athlete

Serena added that she doesn’t want to be pregnant whilst playing tennis, saying: “I definitely don’t want to be pregnant again as an athlete. I need to be two feet into tennis or two feet out.”

She is quitting tennis after the US Open, so that means a pregnancy announcement certainly could be on the cards soon.

However, at the time of writing this, the sportswoman hasn’t announced that she is expecting and it is merely speculation.

In the same Vogue interview, Serena also spoke about never wanting to choose between tennis and family, saying: “I don’t think it’s fair.”

“If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family.”

She was pregnant when she won the US Open

“Don’t get me wrong: I love being a woman, and I loved every second of being pregnant with Olympia,” she continued.

“I was one of those annoying women who adored being pregnant and was working until the day I had to report to the hospital.”

She even revealed that she almost “did the impossible” when she won the Australian Open in 2017 whilst two months pregnant with her daughter.

Serena and Alexis welcomed their daughter Olympia, 5, in September 2017 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Olympia is Alexis’ middle name.

She didn’t announce that she was expecting until she was a 22 weeks and most were completely unaware that she was pregnant when she won the tournament.

Fans think she could be doing the same thing again with the US Open, but only time will tell.
