Alex Jones didn’t make things easy on herself when she went on maternity leave from her job co-hosting The One Show, following the birth of her third child. Twice a week for six months she would head to a fertility clinic in southeast London to work with patients who were aching for the very thing she had: a family. One moment she could be found in the hospital comforting a distraught patient, the next in a pub round the corner nursing her four-week-old daughter.
“It was quite difficult,” she says. “Obviously I didn’t want to take a newborn onto the ward because that feels insensitive. We had this set-up where my husband, Charlie, would be in the pub with Annie. He’d call me and
