Woodstock man pleads guilty to assaulting pregnant woman – Shaw Local

A 42-year-old Woodstock man pleaded guilty to aggravated battery to a pregnant woman Wednesday as part of a plea deal and was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison.

Michael A. Charnota, who is also a registered child sex offender, pleaded guilty to striking a pregnant woman on the head on Oct. 1, 2021, court records show.

In exchange for his guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed two counts of failing to report a change of address, a requirement for sex offenders in the state, and three additional counts of aggravated battery.

The aggravated battery charge is a Class 3 felony, which typically carries a sentence of two to five years.

Charnota will receive credit for the 160 days he has spent in the McHenry County Jail since his October arrest.

Judge Michael Coppedge also sentenced Charnota to one-year mandatory supervised release and $624 in court fees.
